Importing a GIS drawing

Import parcel maps, cadastral and existing-condition data from Shapefile, GeoPackage or GeoJSON as a background drawing

Overview

In addition to importing a network from GIS data, GIS data can also be imported purely as a background drawing – e.g. parcel maps, land registers (ALKIS exports), development plans or utility networks of other trades. The drawing serves as a reference for planning and is not simulated.

Supported formats: Shapefile (.shp), GeoPackage (.gpkg), GeoJSON (.geojson)

Opening

  • Menu Import > GIS-based drawing …
  • alternatively the button GIS Draw in the Import section of the Add geometry panel

Import dialog

OptionMeaning
Single fileImports exactly one GIS file.
DirectoryImports all GIS files of a folder including all subdirectories – convenient for cadastral deliveries that consist of many individual files.
Text attributesList of all attributes found in the data. Checked attributes are displayed as labels in the view (e.g. parcel numbers, street names).
Layers with filled polygonsChecked layers are displayed as filled areas, all others only as outlines.

The import log in the lower area lists the geometries that were read in as well as warnings about unrecognized attributes.

Result

The import creates a GIS Data drawing in the navigation tree with one layer per source file or source layer. As with DXF drawings:

  • Visibility per layer can be controlled via the visibility icons
  • Display (text size, line width) can be adjusted by double-clicking the drawing
  • The drawing can be positioned via move mode if required

Notes

  • The coordinates are transformed into the project coordinate system during import. Make sure that the geographic reference of the project (e.g. from a previous OSM import) matches the GIS data.
  • Very large datasets with many labels can slow down the display – hide text attributes and layers that are not needed.
