Project tools in the Edit menu
The project tools in the Edit menu: edit project information and comments, view the application log, open the project file in the text editor and switch the language
Overview
The Edit menu contains – alongside the program settings – the tools related to the current project: the editor for the project information, the display of the application log, opening the project in the text editor as well as switching the language.
Editing project information
Menu Edit > Edit project information opens a dialog with two tabs.
”Project information” tab
Free text entries about the project, structured into sections:

The entries appear, among other places, on the title pages of the PDF reports (climate, construction and usage-profile report).
”Comments” tab
A text field with formatting options for free project notes. The comment appears as the project description on the start screen, see Project management.
With OK the entries are applied, Cancel discards the changes.
In practice:
Maintain the editor and project information right when creating the project: it appears automatically on the report cover pages and saves you later rework when verifications or client documents are created. The Comments tab is well suited for a short change log per variant.
Opening the application log in the editor
Menu Edit > Open application log in editor displays the log file (VICUS.log) in its own window. It contains the messages from VICUS Buildings – the same ones that also run in the Application messages panel at the bottom edge of the window – and is helpful when narrowing down problems; via Open log file in text editor…, the log file can additionally be opened in the external text editor.
The application log is not to be confused with the solver log (
screenlog.txt) of a simulation, see Starting the simulation.
Opening the project in the text editor
Menu Edit > Open project in text editor (shortcut F2) opens the current .vicus project file in the external text editor – useful to inspect the XML directly. The prerequisite is a path to the text editor stored in the program settings.
Switching the language
The submenu Edit > Language switches the language of the user interface. After the change, a notice appears to restart the software in order to activate the new language.
